Botox vs Dysport
The differences between Botox and Dysport are actually very small. Both drugs contain the same main ingredient: botulinum type A toxin. However, there are minor variations of the two molecules that result in slightly different potency.
Like Botox, Dysport temporarily immobilizes the muscles that cause facial wrinkles. There is no established ratio for potency of the two products but it is thought that 2.5-3 units of Dysport is needed to give the same effect as one unit of Botox. So, even though Dysport is sold at a lower price point, the final cost of your procedure is usually about the same as if you were getting Botox.
There are some studies that suggest that Dysport may have a quicker onset of action, 2-3 days, versus 3-7 days for Botox. I have not really found this to be the case. Also, some studies have shown that Dysport may have a larger area of diffusion which may be beneficial in treating large areas like axilla (underarms) for hyperhidrosis (excessive and unpredictable sweating).
The duration of the effects for both Dysport and Botox are the same, usually 3-4 months. I feel both products are very effective and really do not prefer one over the other.

Advances in Stretch Mark Removal
Stretch marks appear as parallel streaks of red or purple, thinned, glossy skin. Over time they may become depressed and scar-like in texture, and sometimes white in color.
Stretch marks, or striae occur when rapidly expanding skin is stretched to its limit and tiny tears appear in the supporting layers of skin. They can develop when the skin is excessively stretched during pregnancy, weight gain or growth spurts. Some medications, including hormones and steroids can also cause stretch marks.
The dermis, the elastic middle layer of skin that usually allows skin to retain its shape, is where stretch marks occur. When the dermis is constantly stretched it can break down. When that happens, dermal collagen is damaged and blood vessel dilation results in the formation of red or purple-colored stretch marks. Over time the redness may fade and the bands may become lighter in color than the surrounding skin. The bands may become depressed, shiny in appearance or develop an abnormal scar-like texture.
Men and women can get stretch marks on several areas of their bodies, including the abdominal area, thighs, hips, flank, breasts, upper arms or lower back. About 90% of pregnant women get stretch marks. Growth spurts and sudden or excessive weight gain cause stretch marks in young people. They affect 70% of adolescent females and about 40% of young males. Young women commonly get them on their breasts, thighs, hips, abdomen and buttocks. Others often develop stretch marks from participating in certain body-altering sports such as weightlifting, or from the use of dangerous bodybuilding steroid drugs.
There are two commonly advertised options for the removal of stretch marks, topical solutions and surgical solutions. Topical solutions, lotions and creams, provide minimal (if any) results. Surgical removal can be effective but painful. It involves removing the areas of stretched skin through an invasive and painful surgical procedure, and requires a significant amount of downtime.
Dr. Rasmussen has taken a proactive approach to solving the issue of stretch marks and has found both an effective and non-invasive treatment. He has seen tremendous improvement in the appearance of stretch marks with Deep FX treatments. Deep FX is a fractional CO2 laser treatment that works by resurfacing the stretch mark scarring and rebuilding the collagen under the stretch marks. The procedure is a quick out-patient procedure, and has little downtime. Dr. Rasmussen has seen improvement in as little as one Deep FX treatment, but additional treatments may be needed to achieve desired results.
